Softball Drops 8-6 Decision Versus St. Francis (PA) at Capital Classic on Sunday Morning
Central Connecticut (2-7) lost, 8-6, versus St. Francis (PA) at the Capital Classic this morning. Junior Jaclyn Logan went 2-for-3 with an RBI double to lead the Blue Devils. Sophomores Katherine Knowles and Kendall Sours each added two-run singles. CCSU will play a final game at 1 p.m. today. The opponent has yet to be determined.

The Blue Devils drew three walks in the bottom of the first inning to load bases. Knowles drove in the first two CCSU runs with a single. After another walk re-loaded the bases, Sours drove in two more runs with her single. Central Connecticut made it 5-0 in the second. Junior Tiffany Erickson, who scored three runs in the game, walked and came across the plate when a Logan single turned into a two-base error.
St. Francis (PA) took the lead with three runs in both the third and fourth innings, but the Blue Devils tied it at 6-6 in the bottom half of the fourth. Erickson again got on base with a walk. This time she scored on a Logan double. However, SFPA posted a run in the sixth and another in the seventh while Central Connecticut went 1-2-3 in both its halves.
Senior Hilary McNelis led the Red Flash with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. She had a solo home run and scored twice. Freshman Kaitlyn Andler and junior Stephanie Griffin each added a pair of hits in the win. Freshman Megan Layne picked up the win on the mound. She allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, over 6.2 innings. Junior Jerrica Smith gave up four runs in the start. St. Francis (PA) is now 10-11 on the year.
Freshman Abby Harpp pitched the first three innings for the Blue Devils. She surrendered four runs, three earned, on four hits while striking out two. Senior Rachel Brenneman took the loss, going four innings in relief. She allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits while fanning two.
Central Connecticut, which is 1-2 at the Capital Classic, will play in the third place game later this afternoon. The opponent has yet to be determined.
