Six Blue Devils Collect Two or More Hits Each to Lead CCSU in 3-2 Win Over Canisius at St. Mary's Invitational
Central Connecticut (4-11) concluded play at the St. Mary's Invitational in Moraga, CA with a 3-2 victory over Canisius (10-12). Senior Rachel Brenneman pitched a complete game four-hitter with four strikeouts to earn her first win of the season. Sophomore Katherine Knowles went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Blue Devil offense. Five other players added two hits apiece for CCSU.

Canisius put the first runs on the board, scoring twice in the top of the second inning. Both were unearned. Central Connecticut cut the deficit in half in the third inning. Knowles singled to short to start the inning. Sophomore Kendall Sours moved her to third with a one-out single to center field, and freshman Kelli Griffiths drove in the run with a double to center.
The Blue Devils took the lead in the fifth inning. Junior Tiffany Erickson doubled to center field to lead off the inning, but she was caught stealing. Knowles continued the inning with a single and went to third on a double by sophomore Erica Koehler. Sours drove in the first run with a single, and Griffiths put CCSU in front with an RBI single of her own.
Brenneman did not give up a hit in either to sixth or the seventh, preserving the complete game win.
Erickson, Griffiths, Koehler, Sours and senior Jenna Earley all had two hits in the win. The Blue Devils totaled 14 hits.
Central Connecticut will return East to face Fairfield in doubleheader action on Thursday, March 26, at 2 p.m.
