Monmouth, ranked #14 in the nation, defeated Central Connecticut State University by a score of 3-0 on Friday afternoon. The Hawks received goals from Cesar Blacido, Ryan Kinne and Cody Calafiore to improve to 14-1-1 on the season. CCSU falls to 6-8-1 this year and 1-6-1 in the Northeast Conference.
Calafiore got Monmouth on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. After beating one defender he was one on one with senior goalkeeper Paul Armstrong and beat him to the right side of the net. The Hawks went up 2-0 just over two minutes later when Kinne scored his eighth goal of the season. He received a pass from RJ Allen on the right side and one-touched it past Armstrong. Allen received an assist credit on Monmouth's final goal when his shot deflected to Blacido who finished it in the 27th minute.
With no scoring in the second half, the Hawks went on to the 3-0 victory. Armstrong recorded three saves for Central in the defeat, while Monmouth keeper Alex Blackburn needed to make five saves to get the Hawks the win. CCSU will next travel to Mount St. Mary's for a 1:00 p.m. match on Sunday before returning home on Friday, November 6 for senior day against Quinnipiac.
