Leah Blayney Earns Dual MVP Awards; Leads Team to WPSL Title Along With Karise Hilt

Former Central Connecticut State University women's soccer standouts Leah Blayney and Karise Hilt led the Boston Aztecs to the Women's Premier Soccer League National Championship on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Ajax America. Blayney, who earlier last week was named the WPSL East player of the year, added to her honors by being named the Final Four MVP.

The Boston Aztecs are the reserve team for Women's Professional Soccer's (WPS) Boston Breakers. The roster is comprised of women from around the country who are working to make the Breakers roster. The Breakers loan players to the Aztec as needed to gain playing time and experience.

Hilt finished her career with the Blue Devils having played in 80 career games, just two games shy of matching the school record. This season she had three goals and four assists and was named All-Conference on defense for the third time in her career. The last two seasons she has made the first team, and she was on the second team as a freshman in 2006.

Hilt scored nine goals and posted eight assists in her career, and helped anchor one of the strongest defenses in the league in 2009.

Blayney led the Blue Devils and the NEC in scoring this past season with 11 goals and 13 assists, good for 35 points. It was the third-highest single season point total in school history, and her 13 assists were the second-most in a single season at Central.

For her career Blayney played in 61 games and posted 21 goals and 20 assists in three seasons. Her 62 points are fourth all-time in school history, while her 21 goals places fifth and her 20 assists are good for third. She scored 11 game-winning goals in her three seasons.
