Kelley and Leverette Win Events at Holy Cross Invitational

Freshmen Amanda Kelley and Christie Leverette won events on Saturday as the Central Connecticut women's track and field team placed fourth out of seven teams at the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday. Kelley took first in the shot put, recording a distance of 12.2 meters, while Leverette put forth a gold medal performance in the high jump, with a mark of 1.65 meters. Leverette won the heptahlon portion of the meet earlier in the week.

The Blue Devils finished with 67 total points, placing behind Hartford (97), Maine (146) and the host Crusaders, who won the meet with 294 points. CCSU beat out Stonehill (59), American International (34) and Bryant (23).

Kelley also performed well in the other throwing events, placing third in the hammer, fourth in the discus and sixth in the javelin. She recorded distances of 44.92, 34.74 and 34.4 meters in those three events, respectively.

Leverette joined Kelley in the javelin, placing eighth with a mark of 33.44 meters. She was also eighth in the long jump (4.98 meters) and took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 16.86 seconds.

Fellow freshman Amanda Prescott took second place in the triple jump, recording a distance of 10.55 meters. She also put forth a sixth place performance in the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters.

Sophomore Katherine Bossardet and freshman Katrina Ainsworth were the only top five finishers on the track. Bossardet was the runner-up in the 3,000 meter steeple chase, finishing in 11:57.16, while Ainsworth took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles, recording a time of 1:11.50.

The Blue Devils will next compete at the Yale Invitational on Sunday April 26 before preparing for the Northeast Conference Championships on May 2 and 3.
