Jaswell, Kelley Score Points in Day One of Northeast Conference Championships

Senior Megan Jaswell placed sixth in the 10,000 meters, while freshman Amanda Kelley took seventh in both the discus and javelin during the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Jaswell crossed the line in 38 minutes and 45.68 seconds to garner three points for the Blue Devils. Kelley picked up four points with throws of 36.44 meters and 33.53 meters in the discus and javelin, respectively. CCSU is currently in eighth place out of eleven teams.

The Central Connecticut 4x800 meter relay team of Katherine Bossardet, Amanda Asaro, Kim Savino and Kathleen Lima recorded the final five points on the day, placing fourth in a time of 9:40.83. Asaro also qualified for Sunday's 800 meter final with a time of 2:19.77, sixth best in preliminary competition. Freshman Christie Leverette put forth top ten finishes in two events, placing ninth in the 100 meter hurdles and 10th in the javelin. She crossed the line in 15.46 seconds for the hurdles and recorded a distance of 30.74 meters in the javelin.

Monmouth currently leads the meet with 50 points, while defending champion Sacred Heart is in second with 40. Final day of competition will continue on Sunday.
