Central Connecticut State University competed in the first day of action at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Blue Devils finished the day in 12th place, scoring two points. Sophomore Amanda Kelley scored the points for CCSU, placing seventh in the shot put with a distance of 41 feet 2.25 inches.
Three Blue Devils qualified for Sunday's finals on the track. Sophomore Amy Sanjurjo finished the 200 meter dash in 26.11 seconds during Saturday's preliminary action and qualified for Sunday's 200 meter final. Sanjurjo ran the eighth fastest time of the day and will be in section one tomorrow.
Sophomore Kate McGuire and junior Katherine Bossardet also qualified for final action today. McGuire recorded the fifth fastest time of the day in the 500 meters, crossing the line in 1:20.53. She placed second in her heat and will compete in the first section of Sunday's 500 final. Bossardet ran the one mile run in 5:13.91 this afternoon, which was the third best time of the day.
Sanjurjo, McGuire and Bossardet will be joined on the track Sunday by senior Alyssa Cole who will compete in the 5,000 meter run. Kelley will tackle the weight throw and will be joined by senior Samantha Binette, sophomore Amanda Prescott and freshmen Nablissa Lomotey and Dara Edge in Sunday's field events.
