Bonini Named NEC Football Rookie Of The Week
Jean, Olson and Wright earn NEC Prime Performer
Central Connecticut State football player Zach Bonini was named the NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday, for his efforts in the Blue Devils league win at Wagner. Chris Jean, Brady Olson and Malachi Wright were named NEC Prime Performers.
Bonini punted five times for the Bue Devils, averaging 41.4 yards per punt. He had a career-long 65-yard punt, placed one inside the 20-yard line and had a touchback. Bonini is averaging 38.0 yards per punt this season, with two over 50 yards.
Jean intercepted a pass in the endzone in the waning minutes of regulation, turning Wagner away from a potential game-winning score and helped get the game to overtime. He recorded four tackles, two solo, on the evening.
Olson scored the game-winning touchdown, scoring on an 11-yard rush in overtime. He finished with 251 passing yards, a passing touchdown and 35 rushing yards in the victory.
Wright led the Blue Devils defense with nine tackles, including 1.5 TFL and a sack. He made three solo stops on the night.
CCSU, 5-3 overall and 3-0 in league play, are off this weekend. They return to action on November 1st when LIU visits for an NEC contest.
