Beloin Ties For 5th, CCSU Places 9th at Connecticut Cup
Central Connecticut State University finished competition at the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday, placing ninth out of 13 teams in competition at the Ellington Ridge Country Club. Sophomore Greg Beloin led the Blue Devils as he tied for fifth place overall, carding a five over par 221 for the three-round tournament. His one under par 71 in third-round action was the best 18 hole performance by a Blue Devil on Monday and Tuesday.
CCSU finished with a score of 919 at the two-day event, with their best performance coming on the final day of competition, carding a 304 on Tuesday. The Blue Devils placed just ahead of Fairfield and Iona, who tied for 10th, each with a score of 931. Arkansas-Little Rock won the team championship, finishing 22 strokes ahead of runner-up, Bryant University. The Trojans also had the top two individual finishers with Linus Gillgren taking the crown, carding a six under par 210 for the tournament.
Junior Sam Pelletier had the second best outing for Central in the tournament, tying for 29th with a 231 (76-78-77). Freshman Dan Fanion, sophomore Kevin Josephson and junior Eric Hawerchuk rounded out the Blue Devils in competition in Ellington. Fanion finished in 44th place, carding 234 (81-74-79), while Josephson and Hawerchuk tied for 48th and 54th place, respectively. Josephson scored a 236 (81-78-77) for the three rounds, while Hawerchuk finished in 238 (78-81-79) at the tournament.
CCSU will next compete at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on October 19 and 20.
