Men's Golf Takes Fifth at NEC Championships
The Central Connecticut men's golf team put three players in the
top 20, finishing the Northeast Conference Championships in fifth
place out of 10 teams in competition. Sophomores Kevin
Josephson and Greg Beloin, as well as
junior Eric Hawerchuk each shot
four over par 76 to lead CCSU in final round action at the
ChampionsGate Golf Course in Orlando, FL on Sunday.
The Blue Devils shot a team score of 307 in final round action to finish with a total of 922 for the tournament. St. Francis (PA) won the team championship with a score of 910. The topped Sacred Heart by one stroke and Robert Morris by four. Mount St. Mary's finished just ahead of Central with a score of 921 in the three rounds.
Josephson led CCSU in the tournament, tying for seventh place with a total of 225. His 76 final round put him seven strokes off the individual winner. Fairleigh Dickinson's Robert Cerabone took home medalist honors with a three day total of 218.
Beloin and Hawerchuk tied for 15th and 17th overall, respectively. The former carded a 229, while the latter finished in 231 at the Championships. Junior Justin Hughes and freshman Dan Fanion rounded out the Blue Devil golfers at the tournament. Hughes shot a 79 in final round action, finishing the tournament in 28th with a score of 237. Fanion placed 41st after his 80 on Sunday gave him a total of 243.
