Men's Golf Competes In First Day of C&F Bank Intercollegiate
Junior Justin Hughes led Central
Connecticut State University during round one action at the C&F
Bank Intercollegiate on Monday. Hughes shot an even par 71 to tie
for the sixth best score of the day, as the Blue Devils finished
the first day of competition in 10th place out of 22 teams at the
Kingsmill Resort Golf Course in Williamsburg, VA.
Hughes shot a 35 on the front nine and a 36 on the back to lead CCSU with his 71 on the day. The Blue Devils finished with a day one score of 299 to currently rank 10th. Missouri leads the team standings after 18 holes with a score of 288, besting all opponents by at least four strokes.
The Tigers' Jace Long is tied for the individual lead with Delaware's Justin Martinson and James Madison's Ryan Vince. All three players are two strokes ahead of Hughes, as they each recorded two under par 69s on day one of competition.
Freshman Dan Fanion is only one stroke back of Hughes, recording a one over par 72. After finishing the front nine in 37, Fanion came back with a 35 on the back nine to finish tied for 17th.
Junior Eric Hawerchuk and sophomore Kevin Josephson finished tied for 75 after the first 18 holes, each shooting 78. Sophomore Greg Beloin rounded out the Blue Devil golfers. Beloin finished the first day in 80 to tie for 99th.
CCSU and the rest of the teams will finish up play with a second round on Tuesday at the Kingsmill Resort.
