The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated the Bears of Brown University 52-44 on Wednesday night. The win pushes the Blue Devils to 2-0 on the season, and Brown falls to 0-2 with the loss. The Blue Devils were led by 12 points and nine rebounds from senior Kerrianne Dugan.

Central trailed for only 47 seconds in the entire game. Sophomore Kirsten Daamen's lay up with 12:38 remaining in the first period gave Central a 8-7 lead which they never relinquished. The Blue Devils led by as many as 19 points in the first half before finishing the period ahead 37-19.

Early in the second half the Blue Devils led by as many as 20 points, but the Bears battled back closing the gap, before scoring 7 points in the final 1:30 of the game. Senior Leanne Crockett, junior Gabrielle Oglesby and Dugan all contributed four points in the second period to preserve the victory for the Blue Devils.

Dugan led the team in points (12), rebounds (9), and assists (4). Crockett led the Blue Devils on defense posting three blocks and coming up with a pair of steals.

The 2-0 start is the first for the Blue Devils since the 1998-99 season, when Central opened with victories against Fairfield and Colgate. The Blue Devils have not been 3-0 since the 1986-87 season, that was the first season in Division 1 for Central.

The Blue Devils will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to the University of Maine for a 7 p.m. game.
