Women's Basketball Tops Wagner for Fourth Straight NEC Win
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated Wagner 65-52 on Saturday afternoon. The victory pushes the Blue Devils to 5-4 in Northeast Conference play and 12-7 overall on the season. The Blue Devils were led by 14 points from junior Alexzandria Dowdy and 12 from senior Justina Udenze.
The Blue Devils were powered to a 28-25 halftime lead by the play of Udenze and sophomore Kirsten Daamen under the basket. Udenze scored seven points and Daamen dropped in five in the half.
Leading the Blue Devil defense was senior Kerrianne Dugan who grabbed six of the teams 23 rebounds in the half. Udenze pitched in with five boards while freshman Lauren Arbogast grabbed three.
Central started the second half hot, building a 40-33 lead seven minutes into the period, the run was capped by Dowdy's three pointer from the top of the key.
After a basket by Dugan and a pair of Wagner free throws, back-to-back baskets from Udenze gave the Blue Devils a 12 point lead. Piper's squad never looked back cruising to a 65-52 victory.
Dowdy had a game-high 14 points including nine after the break. Udenze finished with 12 points on only 4-7 shooting.
Dugan grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds, scored nine points and added three assists.
The Blue Devils return to action Monday night when they host Mount St. Mary's, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
