Crockett Breaks Central's Career Three Pointer Record
Central Connecticut senior Leanne Crockett became the Blue Devils all-time leader in three pointers on Saturday as the Blue Devils fell to Robert Morris, 54-51. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 13-8 on the season and 5-5 in Northeast Conference action. Crockett finished the game with 10 points, including a pair of threes which gave her 144 for her career, one more than Vicki Guarneri who has held the record since 1999.
The Colonials started fast building an eight point lead nine minutes into the game. The Blue Devils battled back cutting the lead to 15-11 on a jumper from Jessica Babe with 9:41 left in the half. After falling behind by 12 points, Central went on a 10-5 run to close the half. Senior Justina Udenze dropped in four of the Blue Devils 10 points as they went to the break trailing, 28-21.
Crockett opened the second half scoring for the Blue Devils with her first three of the game, the 143rd of her career. Four minutes later she cut the Colonials lead to 37-34, with the 144th three pointer of her career.
Central continued to make runs at the Colonials throughout the period, but each time Robert Morris matched the scoring to maintain their lead. Udenze dropped in eight points and junior Gabrielle Oglesby scored seven in the second half for the Blue Devils. Oglesby and Udenze both had a team-high 12 points.
Udenze grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, nine in the second half. She also had three blocks and was four of four from the line.
Crockett's first points of the game, a layup early in the first half, put her over the 800 point mark for her career.
