The Central Connecticut women's basketball team was defeated 73-32 by Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils fall for the first time this season and now sit at 5-1 entering Northeast Conference play. Rutgers improves to 5-3 with the victory. Senior Kerrianne Dugan had a game-high 19 points for the Blue Devils.
Rutgers came out fast building a 6-0 lead and then exapnding it to 16-6 half way through the first period. Dugan was consistent throughout the game scoring 12 of the Blue Devils 16 first half points. Sophomore Kirsten Daamen and and junior Gabrielle Oglesby each added a basket in the period. Freshmen Lauren Arbogast and Jessica Babe each grabbed four rebounds in the period.
The Scarlet Knights came out strong in the second half, limiting the Blue Devils to only six points in the first 13 minutes of the period, as Rutgers built a 64-22 lead. Late baskets by Dugan and free throw shooting by Gabrielle Oglesby got the Blue Devils ten points in the final six minutes.
Dugan scored 19 of the Blue Devils 32 points, Oglesby and Daamen each had four points. Arbogast finished the game with seven rebounds and senior Leanne Crockett grabbed six.
The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday when they open NEC play at Monmouth, tip-off at 7 p.m.
