The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to St. Francis 68-51 on Monday night. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-6 in Northeast Conference play and 13-9 overall this season. Central got 12 points from senior Kerrianne Dugan and nine points from senior Leanne Crockett.
Crockett got the Blue Devils on the board first with a three pointer on Central's second possession. The Red Flash answered with a 9-0 run that was finally stopped when Dugan hit a jumper to cut the lead to four points.
The Red Flash came out of the first media time out and rattled off a 14-0 run before junior Rachel Chandler was able to hit a jumper from the corner to stop the run. Dugan converted the three point play on the Blue Devils next possession to make it 30-10.
Junior Gabrielle Oglesby led the Blue Devils with six first half points including, six straight to pull the Blue Devils to 38-21. Crockett led the Central defense in the period grabbing five boards and blocking three shots.
Central opened the second half with a 10-5 run which cut the Red Flash's lead to 43-32. Senior Justina Udenze and Crockett each had three points for the Blue Devils during the run.
The Blue Devils and Red Flash traded baskets in the middle of the second half with Dugan leading the Central offense. She scored five of the Blue Devils 10 points over a seven minute stretch.
Central came out of the final media timeout trailing 60-47, but the Red Flash held off the Blue Devil offense in the final minutes.
Crockett had a game-high 10 rebounds, while also blocking four shots.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at Bryant in the first of back-to-back games with the Bulldogs.
