The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell 51-46 at Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-3 on the season and 0-2 in Northeast Conference action. Junior Gabrielle Oglesby and Senior Justina Udenze led the team with 15 points each.
The Blue Devils opened the game fast, building a 13-6 lead half way through the first period. The offensive attack was led by four points from Oglesby and four from sophomore Kirsten Daamen.
The Knights fought back and went on a 11 point run holding the Blue Devils to zero points for over seven minutes. The run swung the score to 17-13 in favor of the Knights. Late foul shots for both teams pushed the score to 21-19 at the break.
The Knights led by as many as six in the second half, but the Blue Devils continued to battle. Oglesby scored ten points and Udenze dropped in eight to pull the Blue Devils within a point, 44-43.
With 1:30 left in the game senior Leanne Crockett launched a three pointer from the corner to give Central a 46-44 lead, but the Blue Devils could not hold on as the Knights answered with a three pointer of their own. A second basket and a pair of late free throws let Fairleigh Dickinson pull away for the 51-46 victory.
Udenze and Oglesby led the Blue Devils with 15 points each, Crockett had nine rebounds and junior Alexzandria Dowdy had four steals and three assists.
The Blue Devils return to action next week at the St. Peter's Holiday Classic. They play the host Peahens on the 29th at 7.pm.
