Roddy Jones Named Influxer/NEC Rookie of the Week
For the second straight week the Central Connecticut men's basketball team had the Influxer/NEC Rookie of the week, with Roddy Jones being announced as the honoree on Monday. Jones earned the accolade for the second time this season
In two wins last week, Jones averaged 10.0 points and 1.0 rebounds, while shooting 7-of-10 overall and 6-of-9 on three-pointers. He had 11 points in Thursday's win over Chicago State. Jones shot 4-of-6 overall, 3-of-5 on three-pointers, in 12 minutes of action. After CSU made it a one-point game with 13:46 to play, Jones responded with five points in a minute to help push the lead back to seven and Central was not threatened again. In the win against Wagner he hit 3-of-4 from the arc for nine points. He hit 2-of-3 treys in the first half as CCSU went into halftime up 10 and never trailed in the second half.
Max Frazier was named a Prime Performer after posting 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals. Frazier shot an eye-popping 81.3% (13-of-16) from the field and was 10-14 (.714) at the foul line. Darin Smith, Jr. was also named a Prime Performer and averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Smith, Jr. shot .484 overall and .455 on three-pointers, while going 14-of-14 at the foul line.
The Blue Devils are back in action at New Haven on Thursday night.
