Lewis Earns NEC Player, Rookie Of The Week
Averaged 28.5 points and 7.0 rebounds and scored career-high 36
Central Connecticut State freshman Kiyah Lewis was named the NEC Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Lewis averaged 28.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games last week and shot 48.7 percent from the field. She was 16-18 at the free throw line, while averaging 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assist per game.
A native of Fredericksburg, VA, Lewis posted her first career double-double on Saturday at Saint Francis. She scored a career-high 36 points in the game, the most by an NEC women's basketball player this season, and fifth most by an NCAA freshman. Her 11 rebounds were also a career-high. Lewis hit 13-15 at the stripe in that game and had two steals and two blocked shots.
In the first game of the week, at Mercyhurst, Lewis tallied21 points, shooting 8-14 from he field. She was 3-3 at the line in that game, while handing out two assists.
Lewis has scored 21 or more in three straight games, averaging 27.3 points per game in that time frame. The stretch has raised her season scoring average to 13.5 points per game, which is fourth in the NEC.
The Blue Devils close out their season on Thursday, hosting New Haven at 7:00 pm at Kaiser Hall.
