Desmarais, Marin Earn NEC Weekly Track & Field Accolades
Duo part of five Blue Devils recognized by NEC
The Central Connecticut State women's track and field team opened its outdoor season this past weekend and Maegan Desmarais and Maya Marin were selected as the Track and Field, respectively, Athlete of the Week. They were joined as NEC Prime Performers by teammates Nuchwara Inthasit, Mya Morabito, and Kyrah Smith.
Desmarais set the school record in the 300m Steeplechase, running 10:25.58, at the Raleigh Relays. The effort was good for 22nd at the meet and is the top time in the NEC and 21st on the national performance list.
Marin finds herself atop the NEC rankings in discus and javelin following the opening weekend. She threw the discus 42.13m, which was 24th at the meet and her javelin effort of 40.65m was good for 17th.
Inthasit ran a personal best in the 100m at Raleigh, running 12.10, which is the fastest time in the NEC this season.
Morabito posted the top 800m time in the NEC, going 2:16.75 and is second fastest in the 1500m at 4:39.74.
Smith went 56.79 in the 400m at Raleigh Relays, placing 58th and sits atop the league rankings in the event.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday at the UConn Dog Fight Challenge.
