Baseball Rallies to Win Series-Opener on Friday against Delaware State
The Central Connecticut State baseball won Friday's NEC series-opener against Delaware State, 5-4, in New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils broke a tie with the go-ahead run in the eighth and sealed the win retiring the Hornets in order in the ninth.
Kyle Salvati started and threw 7.1 strong innings, while Niko Christon tossed 1.2 shutout innings. Four Blue Devils had two hits in the game.

KEY MOMENTS
- Delaware State opened the scoring in the top of the third. Jaryn Sample doubled to begin a streak of three straight hits. Hassan Turner doubled in the first run and Rosnell Lewis h it into an RBI-groundout to make it 2-0. A single by Santino Harwood pushed the lead to 3-0.
- Central would chip away at the lead with runs in the fourth and fifth inning. Louis Jordan led off the fourth with a double and would score on a single by Gianno Merlonghi. In the fifth, Danny Witters doubled to lead off and scored on a Brandon O'Neill single to make it 3-2.
- In the sixth inning, with two outs. Merlonghi and Michael Quiros hit back-to-back singles. Witters followed with a double to clear the bases and make it 4-3.
- DSU would tie it in the top of the eighth. Lewis singled and stole second to open the inning. He would score on a Harwood single to make it 4-4.
- In the bottom of the inning, Nick Fox and Ferrentino singled to open the inning. Fox moved to third on a ground out before scoring on a groundout by Michael Quiros to make it 5-4.
NOTES
- Salvati tossed 7.1 innings in the start and allowed four runs. He had three strikeouts.
- Niko Christon got the win in relief throwing a clean 1.2 innings.
- Witters was 2-for-3 with two doubles. He had two RBIs and a run scored.
- Merlonghi was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
- Quiros also had two hits with a run and RBI.
- Ferrentino went 2-for-4.
- CCSU leads the series, 12-5, all-time and has won five straight.
