Baseball Wins Sunday Finale Over New Haven, 10-6
The Central Connecticut State baseball team won the NEC series-finale, 10-6, on Sunday against New Haven in New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils took the lead in the second inning and would hold off the Chargers to earn the conference win.
Gabe Pits had three hits and drove in three runs, leading a Central lineup that piled up 13 hits. Zach Worzel earned the win on the mound, while Bryce Meder and Niko Christon threw 2.1 innings of shutout relief.

KEY MOMENTS
- New Haven got a run in the first on a Casey Cerruto single to take the early lead, but Central would respond with two runs in the second. Frankie Ferrentino and Pitts hit back-to-back one-out doubles to tie the game. Pitts moved to third on a fly ball before scoring on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
- In the third inning, the Chargers would tie it on a RBI-triple by Shaun Callahan but CCSU came back to score twice in the bottom of the inning. Antonio Ducatelli singled and moved to second after Gianno Merlonghi was hit by a pitch. A groundout would move them in to scoring position before Ferrentino singled to drive them both in and make it 4-2.
- In the top of the fourth, New Haen would take advantage of a CCSU miscue and scored twice to tie the game again at 4-4.
- In the bottom of the frame, Matt Graziose led off with a double to the wall in left field and scored two batters later on a single by Nick Fox to make it 5-4.
- In the fifth inning, Merlonghi singled to lead off and Chris Barkasy drew a walk. With one out and runners on second and third, Pitts would double home both runners to make it 7-4.
- New Haven got a solo homerun to lead off the sixth inning, but CCSU came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Fox singled to lead off and Central would put runners on second and third with one out. Merlonghi came through with a two-run double to extend the lead to 9-5.
- The teams traded runs in the seventh, with Pitts scoring on a error to make it 10-6.
- Meder worked around a jam in the eighth with two runners on before a flyout to end the inning and Christon would allow a harmless hit in the ninth to sew up the win.

- Pitts was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. He hit a pair of doubles.
- Merlonghi was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
- Ferrentino had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
- Fox went 2-for-5 to extend his hit streak to 19 straight games. He had a RBI and a run.
- Ducatelli was 2-for-5 with two runs.
- Worzel went 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
- Meder tossed 1.1 shutout innings after coming on with two runners on base in the seventh.
- CCSU and New Haven met for the first time as NEC foes with the Chargers winning twice.
