Men's Soccer Has Rally Stopped Against UMass Lowell on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team mounted a spirited second half rally, but came up short to UMass Lowell, 3-2, on Tuesday night in New Britain. CCSU would score a pair of goals in the final half-hour, but could not complete the comeback after falling behind, 3-0.

KEY MOMENTS
- UMass Lowell took the lead in the opening five minutes scoring off a corner kick when Linus Musielak sent the ball to Junyoung Hwang at the top of the box. Hwang got off a low shot to the left that slid through traffic to make it 1-0.
- CCSU drew a penalty kick in the 50th minute to set up a chance to tie the game, but Alvaro Medrano dove to his left and made a save to protect the one-goal lead.
- The River Hawks got a pair of goals in the next 10 minutes and appeared to take control of the game. At the 50:43 mark, Jean Leonardo collected a throw in and dribbled on net and slipped his shot to the near post to make it 2-0.
- UML tacked on a goal from Benjamin Inthisone in the 59th minute to push the lead to 3-1 before Central mounted its comeback.
- Just over 30 seconds later, CCSU was awarded another penalty and Santiago Marin Gutierrez put his shot to the left side to make it 3-1.
- The Blue Devils made it a one-goal game with 12 minutes to go on a quick combination of passes from Johannes Gikas to Marin Gutierrez. The ball was crossed into the front of the net and Alvaro Moros slid in to get a foot to the ball and poke it in to make it 3-2.
- CCSU would continue pressuring the UML defense and got back-to-back scoring chances in the 80th minute but Medrano made a pair of close range stops. Central had three shots in the final five minutes, but were unable to find the tying score.
NUMBER TO KNOW
19 – CCSU had 19 shots in the second half, more than UMass Lowell had in the game (15).
NOTES
- Catanzaro and Marin Gutierrez each had six shots for Central.
- Cristian Torres had six saves for the Blue Devils.
- Corner kicks were, 5-4, in favor of CCSU.
- UMass Lowell has gone 5-2 against CCSU.
