Sullivan Gold Paces Men's Track & Field At NEC Championships
Blue Devils lead the team standings with 72 points
The Central Connecticut State men's outdoor track and field team earned six medals in six finals on the opening day of the 2025 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils accumulated 72 points to sit atop the team leaderboard, with Wagner second at 39.5 points and Saint Francis third with 36 points.
The championship, hosted by Stonehill College, will conclude on Sunday. Throws and field events begin at 9:30 am and track events begin at noon.
FINALS
- James Sullivan defended his 10,000m gold medal, and led a dominant team effort, pulling away over the final 800m, capped by a 60 second final lap, to win at 32:21.93
- The Blue Devils placed 4-5-6-7 behind Sullivan, with Eddie Nicholas (32.34.67), Brendan Mellitt (32:37.34), Yankarlos Diaz (32.50.35) and Andrew Hedges (32:54.14), to give CCSU 24 points in the opening event
- Three Blue Devils scored in the hammer throw, led by a silver medal from Greyson Golda, throwing 54.38m
- Kyle Wimbish cleared 2.02m on his first high jump attempt, to earn a silver medal
- Golda picked up a second silver medal in the shot put, throwing 16.15m and Tristan Smith threw 15.42m to capture fourth-place.
- The 4x800 relay closed the first day with a silver medal as Salvatore Masciarelli, Ryan McCauley, Ryan Scappaticci and Chris Abbey combined to run 7:45.26
- Nicholas Xavier took bronze in the hammer, with a top throw of 53.79m, and Angelo Pisacreta finished seventh with a throw of 48.88m
- Keith Townsend and Alexander Figueiredo both cleared 1.93m to finish in seventh and eighth place respectively
PRELIMS
- Four Blue Devils; Abbey (3:56.87), Scappaticci (4:02.03), Aidan Budge (4:02.33) and Masciarelli (4:02.48) are among the 12 qualifiers for the 1500m final on Sunday
- Lucas Figuieredo (47.06) and Noah Colangelo (47.27) are the top two qualifiers in the 400m final, and will be joined by KyMoy Phillip (48.58) the sixth qualifier
- Stylz Mitchell (10.68) and Tristan Burke (10.83) both ran their way into the 100m final, in third and fourth
- Budge claimed the top qualifying spot in the 800m with a run of 1:54.52
- Kenny Agwu (55.00) qualified third and Maxwell Czarnecki (55.53) fifth for the Blue Devils in the 400m hurdles
- Phillip is the fastest (21.68) of three Blue Devils into the final of the 200m, with Tristan Burke (21.80) and Colangelo (21.84) earning berths in the Sunday final
