Mitchell Record Highlights New England's For Men's Track & Field
Rookie broke 100m record with run of 10.49
The Central Connecticut State men's track and field team ran at the New England Championships Saturday, hosted by UMass.
The Blue Devils meet was highlighted by a school record in the 100m, as freshman Stylz Mitchell ran 10.49. The run, good for sixth place, broke the 2019 record of Akiel Smith.
The Blue Devils are slated to compete at three events in the next week. CCSU will be at the UMass Last Chance to Qualify meet on Thursday, and then IC4A/ECAC Championship and Princeton Last Chance on Saturday and finishing Sunday at IC4A/ECAC.
- The Blue Devils steeplechase duo of Eddie Nicholas (9:07.55) and Yankarlos Diaz (9:10.18) finished with silver and bronze in the 3000m steeplechase
- Brendan Mellitt claimed second place in the 10,000m, running 30:46.74
- Ryan McCauley, Sal Masciarelli, Chris Abbey and Ryan Scappaticci took bronze in the 4x800 relay, running 7:46.00
- Noah Colangelo earned bronze in the 200m, with a run of 21.50
- Greyson Golda threw the hammer 54.97m to earn sixth place, while Nicholas Xavier placed ninth with a 54.08m effort
- Lucas Figueiredo finished eighth in the 200, running 21.80
- Chris Abbey ran 4:00.22 in the 1500m, good for 10th place
- Golda then placed 10th in the discus, throwing 46.94m
- Jayden Brown clocked 49.50 in the 400m, good for 13th
- Keith Townsend cleared 1.95m in the high jump to finish 14th
