Hamilton Earns National Honor; Joins Cino For NEC Weekly Awards
Hamilton is the D1 Softball Mid-Major Pitcher of the Week and NEC Pitcher of the Week, while Cino was named NEC Player of the Week
Junior Central Connecticut State softball pitcher Liz Hamilton earned D1 Softball National Mid-Major Pitcher of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to a 6-0 week in NEC action.
Hamilton was also named the NEC Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Ava Cino took home NEC Player of the Week. The duo also earned NEC Prime Performer, along with Grace Lawton.
Hamilton went 5-0 for the Blue Devils, throwing four complete games and tossing 29.0 innings as the Blue Devils swept Stonehill and New Haven. She posted a 1.93 ERA on the week and a 1.17 WHIP. Hamilton fanned 11 batters in a complete game shutout win of New Haven on Saturday. She earned wins in all three games of the sweep of Stonehill, including a two-hitter in the opener and 3.0 scoreless innings in relief in game two. All told, Hamilton fanned 21 opponents during the week.
Cino hit .350 in the six games, reaching base 65 percent of her plate appearances and slugging .850 on the week. She had three home runs, including two in the third game of the sweep of Stonehill. In the opening game of the series Cino as 2-4 with five RBI. In the home sweep of New Haven, she drove in three runs and scored twice.
Lawton hit.389 with six extra base hits to slug .994 in the 6-0 week for the Blue Devils. She had two home runs and seven RBI in the game three win over New Haven.
The Blue Devils travel to Fairfield on Wednesday for a non-conference game, before hosting NEC front-runner LIU for a three-game series this weekend, April 18-19th.
