Softball Earns Big NEC Series Win With Saturday Split Versus LIU
CCSU Takes Game One, 6-0, Behind Stunk's Four-Hit Shutout
The Central Connecticut State softball team split an NEC doubleheader on Saturday with visiting LIU to earn a big series victory by a two games to one count, as the Blue Devils won Saturday's opener 6-0, as Hailey Strunk fired a four-hit, complete game shutout, and the Sharks took game two, 12-4, in five innings. With the split, Central is now 18-3 in conference play and 23-15 overall. LIU is now 16-29 overall and 15-3 in the NEC.

- The CCSU offense got on the board quickly in game one, as Grace Lawton singled home Reagan Vunak from second base in the bottom of the first.
- Joslyn Teal brought home Lawton in the bottom of third with a sacrifice fly to up the CCSU lead to 2-0.
- The score scored 2-0 in favor of the Blue Devils until the bottom of the sixth when CSSU scored four more runs on a solo homer by Skylar Warn, a two-RBI single by Reagan Vunak and a sacrifice fly by Ava Cino.
- That was all the offense that Hailey Strunk would need on the day in the pitching circle in game one, as she raise she season record to 8-3 firing a four-hit complete-game shutout in which she fanned one batter and issued three walks.
- The top four in the Central batting order of Ashlyn Desaulniers, Reagan Vunak, Ava Cino and Grace Lawton went a combined 8-for-14 in game one with three runs scored and four runs batted.
