Young Named NEC Rookie Of The Week
Newcomer posted top 50-free time in the NEC in the opening week
Central Connecticut State swimming newcomer Grace M. Young was named the NEC Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week on Wednesday. She was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Jewelle Maziarz and Maggie Rutledge.
Young, a native of West Hurley, NY, posted the league's best time of the season in the 50 freestyle, swimming 24.54. She also led off a relay in the opener, splitting 53.73 in the 100 freestyle, the fastest split in the NEC thus far. Young also swam the 50 back in the meet at Army West Point, finishing at 29.19, which is the seventh fastest time in the league this season.
Maziarz won the 3-meter board at competition versus UConn, scoring 223.88 points to win by 7.88 points. She placed third on the 1-meter board, at 246.98, 11.92 shy of the top spot.
Rutledge was the Blue Devils top finisher in the CCSU Open Water Festival, stopping the clock at 57:50.9 in the 5K to qualify for CSCAA Open Water Nationals.
The Blue Devils, who will be presented with their 2025 NEC Championship rings at halftime of the October 4th football game, are back in action on October 18th when they host Stony Brook. That dual meet, at the Suydam Natatorium, is set for 1:00 pm.
