Swimming & Diving Wins 11 Events In Dual Win Over Stony Brook
The Blue Devils had three multi-event individual winners and won both relays
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team opened its dual meet season with a 173-127 victory over visiting Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils won 11 events on the day, led by three individual wins from rookie Addison Kenney. Maggie Rutledge and Grace Young both also won twice in individual races. The Blue Devils won both relays in the meet.
CCSU is back in action next weekend when they travel to New Hampshire for a two-day dual meet. The event begins Friday, October 24th at 5:00 pm, with the second session beginning Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 am.
RELAYS
- Addison Kenney, Grace S. Young, Megan Dunnigan and Grace Young opened the meet with a win in the 400-medley relay, stopping the clock at 3:58.82
- Sophie Milhomens, Katie Suchowiecki, Francesca Fusco and Gabby Spaciano swam the relay in 4:3.73 to place third
- Dunnigan, Spaciano, Lauryn Cowing and Grace Young won the 400-freestyle relay, to close out the meet, combining for a time of 3:36.07, 1.9 seconds in front of the runner up
- Maggie Rutledge, Suchowiecki, Milhomens and Fusco finished third at 3:46.56
FREESTYLES
- Maggie Rutledge and Izzy Vega lead a 1-2 sweep of the 1,000-freestyle, posting a time of10:45.47 and 10:48.99 respectively
- Gabby Spaciano was the Blue Devils top finisher in the 200-freestyle, going 1:58.24
- Grace Young won the 50-freestyle with a swim of 24.60 while Lauryn Cowing touched second at 25.48
- Grace Young picked up her second sprint win of the day in the 100-freestyle, going 54.50, finishing just in front of Cowing, who went 54.82
- Rutledge gave CCSU a second win in the 500 free, holding off a charging Seawolf, to touch at 5:13.69
- Milholmens captured third in the event at 5:20.68
DIVING
- Jewelle Maziarz (226.13) and Kaitlyn Carroll (224.33) came out on top of the 1-meter diving, in a competition that saw the top four finishers finish within 3.7 points of each other
- Maziarz took second on the 3-meter board, scoring 235.43 points, while Carroll was third at 223.58
STROKES
- Kenney and Fusco topped the 100 backstroke finishes with Kenney winning it a time of 59.62
- Grace S. Young took the second spot in the 100-breaststroke, going 1:09.1
- Milhomens swam away with the win in the 200-butterfly, going 2:11.05 to win by more than five seconds
- Kenney captured her second individual win with a 2:08.09 swim in the 200 backstroke, with Fusco close behind, placing second at 2:08.52
- Kyla Behrle took the third spot in the 200-fly, going 2:16.50
- Grace S. Young finished second in the 200-breaststroke, with a swim of 2:28.77
- Dunnigan captured the second spot in the 100 fly, with a 59.78 effort
- Kenney found her third win of the day in the 200 IM, pulling away to finish at 2:11.47
