Swimming & Diving Drops Binghamton
Maziarz posts NCAA Zone Qualifying score
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team defeated Binghamton on Saturday, 156-144. The meet was held at NJIT in Newark, NJ.
Senior diver Jewelle Maziarz posted an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score on the 1-meter, board. She won the event with a score of 267.53 points. It is the second time in her tallied a zone qualifying score.
The Blue Devils 400-freestyle relay posted the 88th fastest time amongst mid-major programs this season.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Friday night when they host Friday Night Sprints. The meet will begin at Suydam Natatorium at 5:00 pm.
RELAYS
- Sophie Milhomens (27.73), Grace Young (31.21), Lauryn Cowing (26.61) and Katrine O'Leary (24.51) took second in the opening relay, the 200-medley relay, with a swim of 1:50.06
- Addison Kenney, Kate Suchowiecki, Francesca Fusco and Megan Dunningan were third at 1:50.34
- The Blue Devils closed the meet with a win in the 400-freestyle relay, with the fastest time in the league this season (3:32.65) as O'Leary (53.79), Cowing (52.72), Grace M. Young (52.87) and Dunningan (53.27) won the race by nearly four seconds
- Fusco (55.19), Maggie Rutledge (54.77), Gabby Spaciano (53.63) and Hannah Kretkowski (55.97) finished third with a swim 3:39.56
DIVING
- Kaitlyn Carroll was the team's top scorer on the 3-meter board, tallying 250.13 points
- Maziarz was third on the high board, scoring 245.85 points
FREESTYLE
- Maggie Rutledge and Izzy Vega took the top two spots in the 1,000 freestyle, with Rutledge winning at 10:34.36 and Vega touched at 10:52.00
- Dunningan (1:56.21) and Gabby Spaciano (1:57.55) followed that with a 1-2 placing in the 200-freestyle, with Grace M. Young in fourth at 1:59.77
- Grace M. Young as the top finisher in the 50-freestyle, clocking 24.48, with O'Leary touching third at 24.76
- The Blue Devils touched second and third in the 100-freestyle, with Spaciano going 54.77 and Grace M. Young at 54.98
- Rutledge picked up her second win of the day with a 5:12.45 effort in the 500-freestyle, as she led a 1-2-3 sweep with Spaciano (5:18.26) second and Vega third in 5:21.85
STROKES
- Milhomens took third in the 100-backstroke, with a swim of 58.66, with Kenney close behind at 59.02, as the top four finishers finished within 0.91 seconds
- Grace Young swam to a third-place finish in the 100-breaststroke, touching at 1:09.41
- Milhomens won the 200-fly for the Blue Devils, fending off a charging foe to win in 2:10.89
- Milhomens won again in the 200-backstroke, at 2:06.25, with Fusco in second in a time of 2:08.08
- Grace Young captured third place in the 200-breaststroke, with a swim of 2:30.08
- Dunningan took the second spot in the 100-butterfly with a swim of 58.76, .14 seconds shy of the win and Cowing touched fourth at 59.87
- Kenney took the top spot in the 200 IM, coming from behind, to win with 2:09.28, while Gabi Wroblewski was fourth at 2:13.54
