Swimming & Diving Completes First Day Of Dual With UNH
Blue Devils won 200 free relay and had five top three finishes Friday night.
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team completed the first night of a two-day dual at the University of New Hampshire on Friday. The Catamounts lead the event 123-44.
CCSU opened the meet with a win the 200-freestyle relay, coming from behind at the midway point to pull away to capture the event by more than a second. The Blue Devils mounted five top-three finishes in the individual races that were competed Friday evening.
The two teams are back in the pool for the conclusion of the meet Saturday at 11:00 am. The meet can be streamed live on America East.TV
RELAYS
- Grace M. Young (24.77), Megan Dunningan (24.71), Katrine O'Leary (24.40) and Lauryn Cowing (24.27) won the opening 200 freestyle relay, as O'Leary turned a .18 second deficit into a lead that Cowing extended to win at 1:38.15
- Katie Suchowiecki (26.20), Lauren Lord (26.11), Jillena Plowucha (27.53) and Amelia Cieslik (36.09) finished third in the opening event
- Sophie Milhomens (58.41), Grace Young (1:08.21) Francesca Fusco (59.11) and Grace M. Young (53.04) swam to a third-place finish in the final event of night one, the 400-medley relay
FREESTYLE
- Gabby Spaciano placed third to lead the 200 freestylers, with a swim of 1:57.75, while Sophie Milhomens was fifth at 1:59.31
- O'Leary (24.51) and Grace M. Young (24.61) captured second and third place respectively in the 50-freestyle
- Maggie Rutledge led the 1,000 group with a fourth-place effort in a time of 10:52.03
STROKES
- Reigning league rookie of the week Addison Kenney took silver in the 100-backstroke, with a time of 59.36, while fellow rookie Francesca Fusco was fifth, stopping the clock at 1:00.93 in the 100 backstroke
- Grace Young (1:08.63) took third in the 100 breaststroke, with Veronica Okurowski (1:11.43) capturing fifth
- Milhomens was the fastest Blue Devil in the 200-butterfly, with a 2:12.29
- Dunningan (2:12.51) and Gabi Wroblewski (2:13.18) were fourth and fifth in the 200 IM
