Swimming & Diving Has Strong Showings On Saturday
The swimmers were at the Gompei Invite, while the divers finished their two-days at the ECAC Winter Classic
The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team was in action at two separate meets on Saturday. The divers completed their two-day competition at the ECAC Winter Classic, while the swimmers were at the Gompei Invitational.
SWIM RESULTS | DIVE RESULTS
Sunday is the final day of competition at the Gompei Invitational.
RELAYS
- The Blue Devils took the second spot in the 200-freestyle relay, going 1:37.5 with Katrine O'Leary (24.49), Lauryn Cowing (24.48), Grace M. Young (23.90) and Megan Dunnigan (24.68) teaming up on the relay
- Sophie Milhomens (25.94), Katie Suchowiecki (25.48), Maggie Rutledge (25.44) and Gabby Spaciano (24.96) teamed up for a ninth-place finish, at 1:41.82
- The 400-medley relay team of Milhomens (59.13), Grace Young (1:06.61), Dunnigan (59.74) and O'Leary (52.72) took the second spot at 3:58.20
- The B-Relay placed seventh, with Fusco (1:00.25), Veronica Okurowski (1:09,90), Cowing (59,18) and Grace M. Young (53.62) combining for a time of 4:02.95
400 IM
- Gabi Wroblewski went by two opponents, and nearly a third, in the final 100 yards to take the fourth spot in the 400 IM, going 4:39.88
- Izzy Vega was also in the top final, placing 10th at 4:54.89
- Kyla Behrle captured 17th place with an evening swim of 4:57.22
100 BACKSTROKE
- O'Leary and Milhomens battled to fourth and fifth place, with O'Leary going 58.08 and Milhomens 58.66
- Francesca Fusco was more than half a second faster in the evening swim, touching at 1:00.69 to place 15th, while Mackenzie Talbot was .55 faster, stopping the clock at 1:04.45 to place 26th
50 BUTTERFLY
- Dunnigan was the top Blue Devil in the 50 fly, placing 10th with a night swim of 26.83
- Six Blue Devils comprised the B-Final, with Cowing taking the top spot in that heat at 26.62, with Hanna Kretkowski 13th with a swim of 27.08
- Jillena Plowucha (27.53), Fusco (27.68), and Behrle (27.77) finished 16-17-18with Veronica Okurowski in 20th after going 27.89
200 FREESTYLE
- Spaciano captured the fifth spot, with a swim of 1:57.66, 1.24 seconds faster than her qualifying time that had her in the ninth spot
- Rutledge won the B-Final with a time of 1:58.72, with Grace M. Young in 15th at 2:00.62, after qualifying with a swim of 1:59.75
- Lauren Lord (2:03.05) was 1.18 seconds faster at night than in prelims to earn 26th and Kretkowski went 2:05.76 Saturday night to place 30th
50 BACKSTROKE
- O'Leary earned bronze with a 26.88 effort, while Milhomens was fifth at 27.67
- Grace M. Young won the B-Final in a time of 28.50while Fusco was tied for 14th in a time of 28.82
- Suchowiecki captured the C-Final in a time of 29.19 and Plowucha went 30.91 to take 26th
100 BREASTSTROKE
- Grace Young earned fourth place in the event, shaving almost two seconds off her qualifying morning swim to post a 1:07.28
- Okurowski touched in 14th place with a swim of 1:10.15, .76 faster than her morning effort and Suchowiecki placed 29th in 1:16.55
DIVING
- Kaitlyn Carroll took fourth on the 3-meter board at the ECAC Winter Classic. scoring 243.65 points in finals, after scoring 231.20 in prelims
- Jewelle Maziarz was sixth on the high board, scoring 237.75 in the finals, while Rachel Giroux was 10th with 193.30 points in prelims
