Men's Basketball Outlasted by Northeastern in Atlantic Slam
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team played in the Atlantic Slam in Moncton, New Brunswick, falling to Northeastern, 80-62, on Saturday evening. Central trimmed a 22-point halftime deficit to 10 points with just over five minutes remaining before the Huskies were able to cushion their lead down the stretch.
Jayden Brown led a trio of Blue Devils in double-figures with 15 points. CCSU shot 26-of-54 (.481) overall and 5-of-19 (.263) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were just 5-of-11 (.455) at the foul line.
Rashad King and Harold Woods scored 27 and 26 points, respectively, to lead the Huskies. Woods added a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Northeastern shot 32-of-60 (.533) overall and 9-of-25 (.360) on three-pointers. The Huskies were a perfect 7-of-7 at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils made six of their first eight shots and would lead 12-10 just 4:45 into the game, following a jumper by Jordan Jones. After five straight points by Jones put Central ahead 17-15, the Huskies would hold CCSU to just two field goals over nearly six minutes and built a double-digit lead.
- After a three-pointer and a layup by Joe Ostrowsky got Central within 33-26 at the 5:29 mark, Northeastern would score 15 unanswered points in a span of 3:53 to go ahead 48-26. A jumper by Jayden Brown ended the Huskies' spurt before a layup by King made it 50-28 at halftime.
- A Northeastern three-pointer pushed its lead to 58-30 with 18:14 to play before the Blue Devils' defense held the Huskies scoreless for nearly nine minutes. CCSU would force eight straight missed shots and went on an 18-0 run, capped off with a three-pointer by Ostrowsky to make it 58-48 with 11:02 to play.
- The Huskies ended their scoreless drought with a three-pointer at the 9:34 mark. A jumper by Darin Smith, Jr. with 5:22 left made it 67-57 but Northeastern promptly scored 13 unanswered points and CCSU was unable to get closer than the final margin.
NUMBER TO KNOW
15 – The Blue Devils were forced into a season-high 15 turnovers, which Northeastern turned into 23 points. CCSU entered the game having committed just 21 turnovers in three games.
NOTES
- Brown shot 6-of-9 from the field and was 2-of-4 from three-point range. He added four rebounds.
- Abdul Momoh grabbed a team-high five rebounds and blocked three shots.
- Ostrowsky finished with eight points and matched a career-high with four steals.
- Smith finished with 11 points for his third straight game in double-figures.
- Jordan Jones had 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Sweatman finished with six points and a team-high four assists off the bench.
- Northeastern won its fifth straight in the series and improved to 12-2.
