Men's Basketball Slowed at Sacred Heart on Thursday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell to Sacred Heart, 67-54, on Thursday night at the Pitt Center. The Blue Devils trailed throughout and were unable to overcome a season-high turnovers.
Devin Haid and Jordan Jones led the Blue Devils with 14 points apiece. CCSU was limited to 19-of-57 (.333) shooting and was just 4-of-24 (.167) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 12-of-14 (.857) at the foul line.
Tanner Thomas led three Pioneers in double-figures with 18 points. SHU shot 27-of-63 (.429) overall and 9-of-29 (.310) on three-pointers, while holding a 21-10 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Sacred Heart went 4-of-5 (.800) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- A three-point play by Haid just 1:57 into the game, but Sacred Heart would get a Thomas three-pointer on the next possession to open an 11-0 run. Another layup by Haid would snap the scoring run before SHU tacked on five more points to extend the lead to 19-5 at the 13:07 mark of the first half.
- The Pioneers would extend their margin to as much as 33-14 before CCSU managed to mount a charge. Jones would score five quick points before an alleyoop to Abdul Momoh capped a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 12 with 3:52 left in the half, but that was as close as the Blue Devils could get before going into halftime trailing, 43-26.
- A layup by Jayden Brown just over a minute into the second half was all Central could manage before being forced to take a timeout after SHU went ahead 50-28 with 17:30 to play. The Blue Devils held SHU to just one field goal over a span of 7:24, but could only manage to cut the deficit to 17 points with 12:19 remaining.
- The Blue Devils' deficit would grow to as much as 60-37 with 8:51 remaining and the Pioneers would keep CCSU from rallying by holding to just 1-of-11 on three pointers in the period and 9-of-30 shooting overall. Central's lone trifecta in the half came from Brown with 3:28 left as CCSU scored the final nine points of the game to settle the final margin.

30 – Central has been forced into 30 turnovers in the past two games, both losses. The Blue Devils committed just 21 turnovers combined in the first three games .
NOTES
- Haid matched a season-best scoring on 5-of-11 shooting. He added three rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots
- Jones added a career-best seven rebounds and season-best four steals, along with a block and a steal.
- All nine Blue Devils scored in the game, but other than Haid and Jones, none managed more than five points.
- The game was the grand re-opening of the Pitt Center at Sacred Heart.
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 38-36.
