Men's Basketball Fends Off UMass Lowell, 69-67, on Sunday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team had three players in double-figures and held off UMass Lowell for a 69-67 win on Sunday at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT. Central led by as many as 13 points in the second half, before snuffing out a River Hawks chance to tie on a final inbounds pass.
Darin Smith, Jr. led the Blue Devils with 14 points, while Abdul Momoh added 13 points and Devin Haid finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. CCSU was 26-of-53 (.491) shooting and was 5-of-15 (.333) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 12-of-17 (.706) at the foul line.
Max Brooks led the River Hawks with 29 points and 10 rebounds. UML shot 25-of-56 (.446) overall and 3-of-13 (.231) on three-pointers. The River Hawks went 14-of-20 (.700) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- The teams opened the game shooting a combined 1-of-9 from the field. UMass Lowell took an early 17-13 lead with a 10-2 run. The River Hawks scored six unanswered to close out the run, including a three-point play to go ahead by four at the 11:21 mark.
- CCSU would retake the lead following a three-pointer by Jayden Brown and layup by Momoh with 7:57 to go in the half. The Blue Devils would extend the lead to as much as 34-26 after a three-point play by Smith before taking a five-point advantage into the intermission.
- Central would get a three-pointer from Joe Ostrowsky and a three-point play by Haid to push its lead to 46-33 with 17:23 remaining.
- UML would respond with a 12-2 run over a span of 4:08 to get within 50-49 after a fastbreak layup with 11:44 to play. The River Hawks would retake the lead after two foul shots by Brooks made it 61-61 with 4:33 to play.
- Momoh would respond by converting three interior baskets in a span of 1:35 that put Central back in front, 67-62, with 1:24 remaining. The River Hawks would make it 69-67 with three seconds to play. After grabbing the rebound off a missed CCSU foul shot, UML had to inbound from under the CCSU basket with under a second to play. Max Frazier would deflect the inbounds pass to seal the Central win.

- CCSU shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the field in the second half.
- Central held a 10-8 advantage in second chance points, despite being outrebounded, 35-29.
