Men's Basketball Win Streak Snapped at Rhode Island
Devin Haid poured in a career-high 24 points with 12 rebounds, but the Central Connecticut men's basketball team ran out of time in falling 77-69 against Rhode Island on Sunday at the Ryan Center in Kingston, RI. The Blue Devils trimmed a 13-point deficit to five with under a minute to play, but the Rams held off the CCSU rally.
Haid shot 9-of-17 overall and connected on three three-pointers. Joe Ostrowsky and Davonte Sweatman each chipped in 11 points. Central shot 26-of-58 (.448) overall and was 10-of-28 (.357) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 7-of-9 (.778) at the foul line.
Jamarques Lawrence led four Rams in double-figures with 16 points. URI shot 26-of-60 (.433) overall and 8-of-26 (.308) on three-pointers. Rhode Island was 17-of-28 (.607) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- Jayden Brown opened the game by scoring Central's first six points on a pair of three-pointers. Back-to-back hoops by Max Frazier and Jordan Jones would put the Blue Devils ahead by four just over six minutes into the game.
- Just past midway through the opening period, Haid would score account for seven straight CCSU points. His four-point play at the 8:08 mark gave Central its largest lead at 23-18.
- URI would hold CCSU without a field goal for 2:43 late in the half to take the lead. Consecutive three-pointers by Lawrence made it 33-28 with 2:59 to go in the period. After a Frazier layup made it a one-point game, a David Fuchs dunk made it 35-32 at halftime.
- Five straight points from Jordan Jones and a jumper by Haid got Central within, 42-41 with 17:18 remaining.
- URI would keep control of the lead and used a quick 9-0 run to push the lead to 54-44. The Rams would not allow the margin to go below seven points and a three-pointer by Lawrence made it 69-56 with 3:02 left.
- CCSU would hold the Rans without a field goal the rest of the way, but URI went 8-for-10 at the foul line in the final 1:10 to hold off a late Blue Devils charge.

3 - Central committed just three turnovers after halftime and did not allow URI to score off any takeaways in the second half.
NOTES
- Haid totaled 13 points and nine rebounds in the opening half. He added two assists, two blocks and a steal.
- Ostrowsky was 3-of-4 on three-pointers and added five assists, without a turnover, and seven rebounds.
- Jordan Jones finished with four assists, no turnovers, and four steals. In the past two games, he has accounted for 10 steals.
- URI is 4-0 all-time against CCSU.
