Men's Basketball Fends Off Quinnipiac on Saturday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team held off Quinnipiac, 84-80, on Saturday in New Britain, CT. Devin Haid led four Blue Devils in double-figures with 24 points, matching a personal-best, while Max Frazier had 17 points and nine rebounds in his first career start.
Haid shot 8-of-11 overall, while Frazier was 7-of-8 from the floor. Davonte Sweatman had 14 points and Jayden Brown had 12 points. Central shot 30-of-49 (.612) overall and 8-of-18 (.444) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 16-of-28 (.571) at the foul line.
Amarri Monroe had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Quinnipiac shot (28-of-64 (.438) overall and 9-of-26 (.346) on three-pointers. QU was 15-of-19 (.789) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would take a 13-12 lead just under five minutes into the game following a three-pointer by Haid. The Bobcats would respond with 11 unanswered points over a nearly five-minute span. QU had a trio of trifectas in the run, including two by Ryan Mabrey. His second would cap the run to make it 23-13.
- The Blue Devils' defense would hold the Bobcats to just two field goals over the final 10:47 of the period. A layup by Brown would snap the CCSU scoring drought and commenced Central outscoring the visitors, 28-11, to close the half. A three-pointer by Brody Limeric made it 39-32 before Monroe had a dunk with 41 seconds left in the half. Haid hit a jumper just before the intermission to make it 41-34 at the break.
- Quinnipiac would outscore CCSU, 15-8, to begin the second half and tied the game at 49-49 on a three-pointer by Mabrey with 16:16 to play.
- Central responded with eight unanswered points, capped by a pair of Darin Smith, Jr. foul shots to go ahead 57-49. The Blue Devils would maintain the lead for the rest of the game and would take their largest lead of the day at 78-66 following five straight points by Davonte Sweatman with 2:39 to play.
- The Bobcats would outscore CCSU, 14-4 and got within 82-80 following a layup by Savion Lewis with 0:21 left. Joe Ostrowsky would hit a pair of foul shots and QU misfired on a three-pointer on its final possession to settle the score.

- Sweatman had a team-high five assists in 34 minutes off the bench.

- CCSU set a season-best mark for shooting percentage in the second half.
- The Blue Devils are 4-0 at home on the season and have won 10 straight regular-season home games.
- CCSU won its 8th non-conference game of the campaign, setting a program-best mark since joining the Northeast Conference.
- Central leads the all-time series, 48-25, while snapping a three-game slide in the series with its first win over QU since Feb. 25, 2013.
