Volleyball Falls in Close Match at FDU on Friday
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to FDU in three sets on Friday night in Hackensack, NJ. The Blue Devils narrowly fell in the opening two sets, before the Knights won the third set and clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament.
The teams conclude the regular season on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU opened the match by scoring the first five points and forcing a FDU timeout. A kill by Aubrey Stitcher would put Central ahead, 13-7, before the Knights would begin to chip away at the lead. An ace by Olivia Keckler made it 20-16 before FDU called a final timeout. The Knights would tie the set at 21-21 and the sides would then trade points until FDU set up set point and won, 25-23.
- In the second set, neither team led by more than two points before CCSU called timeout, trailing, 11-8. FDU would extend the lead to 14-10 before the Blue Devils got a kill by Keckler to start a run that would tie the set at 16-all. FDU edged ahead again, but Central would come back to even the score after a Denommé ace and a kill by Weronika Poczynek made it 23-23. FDU recovered to clinch the set with back-to-back points.
- Central would lead 11-8 in the third set before FDU ran off six straight points to take the lead. The Knights pushed the lead to 17-12 and forced a Blue Devils timeout, but the margin would get no closer as FDU went on to close out the match.

NOTES
- Poczynek led CCSU with nine kills and she added six digs.
- Anja Milosevic had 27 assists with six digs.
- Denommé had a match-high 13 digs and added three service aces.
- Ginley had eight kills and hit .412 with a block.
- Keckler had seven kills with five digs.
- The CCSU loss, coupled with a Mercyhurst win, eliminated the Blue Devils from NEC Tournament contention.
- Central is 31-11 in the series dating back to 2002, but FDU has won the past eight meetings.
